What is emotional addiction and what does it have to do with you?

Let’s talk about emotional addiction.

You might be wondering WTF emotional addiction is and what it has to do with you.

The fact is that it has EVERYTHING to do with you and what’s holding you back from creating what you want in your life and in your biz.

Allow me to explain:

Let’s imagine you’ve become accustomed to feeling frustrated on a regular basis and that it’s a state that you’ve been feeling with increasing frequency and intensity for a prolonged period of time.

To adapt to the increase of neuropeptides corresponding to the state of frustration, the cells in your body begin a process of adaptation called up-regulation to cope with the increasing supply of these neuropeptides.

And what, pray tell, you might be asking is up-regulation?

As part of your body’s commitment to adaptation, when your cells divide, they increases the number of frustration receptors available in order to cope with the increasing supply of neurotransmitters corresponding to frustration.

If this process of up-regulation is repeated time and time again, your body will become habituated to feeling frustrated so that this becomes a normal state of being. As a result, your body will actually crave the very feeling you say you want to shift because your body’s job is to maintain that chemical continuity based on the needs of your cells.

So much so, that if you can’t find something to be frustrated about, you’ll create something.

This is emotional addiction and this is how and why states become self-perpetuating.

The same is true of any state: anger, shame, anxiety, depression, joy, peace.

This is also why commitment, determination and persistence are key to change work.

The good news is that change IS possible and it doesn’t need to take forever, especially when you have a range of incredible mind-body tools at your disposal.
